Welcome to Give Black, Give Back, an inspiring initiative under the umbrella of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Our mission is twofold: to serve as a dynamic resource and to amplify the impact of Black-led funds within CFMT. We are dedicated to empowering and supporting nonprofit organizations that are by and for the Black community, enhancing their capacity to serve effectively.
At Give Black, Give Back, we recognize the deep-seated tradition of generosity in the Black community. According to “African American Psychology: From Africa to America” by Faye Z. Belgrave and Kevin W. Allison (Fourth Edition, 2019), Black households are often more charitable with their discretionary income, donating up to 25 percent more than other groups. This fact underlines the significance of our work and the community we serve.
Our approach acknowledges and celebrates the diversity of donor contributions. We understand that giving comes in many forms – from the generosity of substantial donations to the powerful impact of smaller, collective contributions made by families, faith-based groups, and civic organizations. Every act of giving is vital and valued in its unique way.
We firmly believe in the power of Black leadership in philanthropy. Such leadership is essential for engaging in genuine and effective grant-making in communities of color. It ensures that the support provided is both relevant and impactful.
Our commitment to nurturing and expanding Black philanthropy is reflected in our actions:
- Amplifying Black-Led Funds: We act as a catalyst to enhance the visibility and impact of Black-led funds within the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
- Building Partnerships: We strive to create and nurture partnerships between Black philanthropists and local nonprofits. These collaborations aim to meet shared goals and foster a sense of community solidarity.
- Educational Outreach and Access: Understanding the importance of informed philanthropy, we offer educational resources and opportunities. These initiatives are designed to bridge the racial wealth gap and promote sustainable philanthropic efforts within Middle Tennessee and beyond.
At Give Black, Give Back, we are more than just a program; we are a movement. We aim to cultivate a culture of giving that resonates through generations, enriching and invigorating our community with each step we take together.
