I established this Fund along with my mother and grandmothers as a way to share our love of being together, giving to others, and hoping for a better world. I have watched two generations of women before me change their communities through volunteerism, building programs, taking care of neighbors, and debating around dinner and board tables on how to best solve the problems of the world!
Joining with like-minded girls and women, we hope to raise money, grant to non-profit organizations that give girls more opportunities, especially in school and improved health, and learn more about our ever-changing community through the grants we award every year.
As a girl scout, our first volunteer project under Girls Give was very personal to me, as we partnered with a troop in Nashville made up of girls whose families were homeless. So different than my experience, this eye-opening opportunity forever changes how one thinks about life and community and the ways we can work to make it better.
My mom and I have a favorite quote from Robert Kennedy that sums up why we do what we do, “Each time a WOMAN stands up for an idea or acts to improve the lot of others or strikes out against injustice, she sends forth a tiny ripple of HOPE, crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest of walls of oppression and resistance.” Our Fund is built on Hope for better tomorrows for women and girls.
