It is with great sadness we say goodbye to John E. Mayfield, a generous man who was dedicated to making a difference in Cheatham County and beyond.
A celebration of John’s life will be Sunday, October 1, 2017, at 2pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee.
Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, September 30, 2017, from 2pm to 6pm and on Sunday, October 1st from 12pm until funeral hour of 2pm.
John E. Mayfield was an inspiration to all who knew him and to the children of Cheatham County and of this world.

Mayfield, age 65, was born on September 13, 1952, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Pearson B. Mayfield Jr. and Amy Eggleston Mayfield. He was a graduate of Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Class of 1970, and he also attended UT Knoxville and Cleveland State Community College.
John was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves 335th Engineering Detachment and worked at First American Bank and Cumberland Heights. He owned and operated Mayfield Bookstore for 27 years.
John was a passionate philanthropist and Kiwanian. He gave of his time, talents, and his means unselfishly to those who may not be afforded the opportunity for a higher education otherwise.
Through his own foundation, established in 1996, John supports the Tennessee 4-H Foundation, Nashville State Community College where the library is named in his honor, provides scholarships for local students and has established scholarships at various universities in Tennessee and supports many local charitable groups and has been a major continuing sponsor of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
